Previous Research Endeavors

During my Junior year of high school (11th grade) , I shadowed several scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The following year, I began my career in research. Since then, I have worked in two cancer biology labs and completed my masters thesis on epigenetic regulation of a factor in type 2 diabetes. Now I'm beginning my PhD in Mammalian Genetics.

November 2007 - April 2008

For my high school senior project I participated in a mentored experiment. Along with Xiaolin Nan, we assessed a potential anti-tumor drug. The drug was an inhibitor of ERK phosphorylation, the modulation that signals ERK's nuclear translocation and subsequent growth signaling. Therefore, we evaluated the drug's ability to prevent entry of GFP-tagged ERK into the nucleus using time-lapse fluorescent microscopy.

September 2011 - September 2012

(1) Studying the effect Leucine-rich Repeats and Immunoglobulin-like Domains (LRIG) 3 has on the expression of the ErbB/HER family of receptor tyrosine kinases (EGFR, ErbB2, ErbB3, and ErbB4) often overexpressed in breast cancer. (2) Studying the effects of tamoxifen and fulvestrant in conjunction with LRRC4 overexpression on the expression of LRIG1 and cell viability.

August 2012 - June 2015

Studying the involvement of epigenetic modulation by histone deacetylases on cAMP-stimulated repression of microRNA-375, a regulatory RNA overexpressed in type 2 diabetic patients and thought to be involved in the progression from prediabetes to diabetes.
